Thermador Appliance Repair

Thermador was founded in 1916 by William E. Cranston Jr., then a manufacturer of portable and "bilt-in" electric heaters, at the dawn of the electric appliance age. Electric refrigerators had just been invented, but the majority of homes in the US didn't have electricity; those few that did couldn't power anything more than lights, and kitchens were a place people worked, cooking on stoves powered by wood or coal that were also used as boilers for the hot water in the home.

In 1932, Cranston and H. H. Fogwell merged their two independent companies and formed the Thermador Electrical Manufacturing Company to manufacture appliances. Thanks to the widespread availability of electricity in major cities and large towns, the 1930's saw tremendous growth for Thermador and electric appliances in general. During the 1940's, Thermador was at the forefront of innovation and was the first manufacturer to introduce stainless steel to the home kitchen. In 1947, Thermador introduced the "Stainless Kitchen" and produced the world's first "Bilt-In" wall oven with a matching "Bilt-In" cooktop, and in 1948, was the first company to introduce the "Pro Range" for the home, patterned on commercial cooking equipment.

As the post-war economy improved, more and more people wanted the convenience of restaurants in their home kitchens, the "kitchen of the future" led to further innovations in technology and design with chrome, stainless steel, and color options being introduced to the kitchen. Thermador introduced "Stainless and Color" kitchen styling in 1957, offering combinations of stainless steel with colors such as Canyon Copper, Daffodil Yellow, Turquoise, Sugar White or Desert Pink.

In 1962, Thermador introduced the first all stainless steel dishwasher, including the first tub dishwashers with dual motors and pumps for quieter operation, and the first self-cleaning oven in 1963, as well as oven doors with "black glass", a design feature still used today. In the 1970's, Thermador introduced the first "smooth top" cooktop using materials developed by the Corning Corporation, and in 1976, the first "browning" microwave, and the "Speedcooking" oven, combining thermal heat with a microwave to cook food 35% faster. In 1998, Thermador introduced their iconic "Star" burner, offering greater heat coverage with a perimeter that is 56% larger than traditional round burners, and in 2011, Thermador introduced the first built-in steam convection oven.

Thermador has been part of the Bosch Home Appliance family of companies since 1998, and continues its tradition of bold design, performance, and innovation, manufacturing full lines of luxury and professional grade appliances. Thermador continues to believe that the heart of every home is the kitchen, and that there is no substitute for exceptional appliances to enhance the experiences found there.
