GE Appliance Repair

The General Electric Company was founded in Schenectady, NY in 1892, as a merger between Edison General Electric founded by Thomas Edison and Thomson-Houston Electric Company led by Charles A. Coffin. The merger was backed by Drexel, Morgan & Company (JP Morgan and Anthony J. Drexel), which had been financing Thomas Edison's research and development for several years prior to the merger. Shortly after the merger, in 1907, General Electric began marketing a full line of cooking and heating products.

For over 125 years, GE has been at the forefront of the appliance industry, having developed the first successful residential refrigerator, the first fully automatic washing machine, the first food-waste disposer, and the first self-cleaning oven. An innovator not just of product design, but manufacturing methods, GE was an early adopter of plastic molding technologies, computer and robotics. In 1931, GE invented a lightweight insulating material called Thermocraft, which was licensed by GE's competitors around the world for many years. A proponents of lean manufacturing practices, GE was an early adopter of Six Sigma, inspiring countless manufacturers, large and small to adopt the practice.

GE in 1951, anticipating exponential growth in the appliance industry after WWII, decided to consolidate its production facilities into a large complex in Louisville, Kentucky, and purchased 700 acres of land. Named Appliance Park, it is currently situated on 920 acres and employees approximately 12000 people. With manufacturing facilities in four states, GE continues to produce the majority of its appliances in the United States. Now part of the Haier Group, GE continues to be a global leader in innovative appliances for the home.
