The Kenmore brand was born in 1913, first appearing on a drop fed sewing machine marketed from 1913-1919. With success in sewing, Kenmore introduced a washing machine in 1927, and an updated version called the Gyrator wringer washer in 1929 which promised to wash clothes clean in 3-7 minutes. The 1930's saw the introduction of the Kenmore Revolving Brush Cleaner vacuum cleaner, and the Kenmore Toperator automatic washing machine, bringing Kenmore into the automatic washer industry.

After World War 2, Kenmore reintroduced their line of ranges in 1946, and a fully automatic clothes dryer in 1949 along with a their line of Harmony House appliances, made with the latest technology, and available in a range of colors such as Sunshine Yellow, Malibu Coral, and Aquamarine. The 1950's saw the introduction of a Kenmore Brand dishwasher, the Turbomatic washer-dryer combination, the first of its kind, and the sale of their 10 millionth appliance.

The late 1960's saw the introduction of an automatic washer with a pre-soak cycle, and in 1971, the first Kenmore Brand microwave oven. In 1980, the Kenmore brand added solid-state times to their oven, and solid-state controls on their dishwashers. By 1995, 25% of all major appliances sold in the US are Kenmore brand appliances.

Currently Kenmore markets products under three brands, Kenmore, Kenmore Elite, and Kenmore Pro, with a broad range of features to suit their customers specific needs. Kenmore products are currently produced for Kenmore by a number of major brands including LG, Whirlpool, Electrolux, Cleva North America, Panasonic and Daewoo Electronics.
