Lak-Hui (pronounced "Lucky") Chemical Industrial Corporation was founded in 1947, as the first company in South Korea to enter the plastics industry, and established the first cosmetics laboratory in Seoul in 1948. By the end of the 1960's, Lucky Chemical had expanded operations into several industries, first making plastic combs and soap cases with the first injection molding machine in South Korea in 1952, and Lucky Toothpaste in 1955, PVC pipe in 1956 and vinyl floor coverings in 1957.

With the plastics business in full swing, Lucky established GoldStar Company Limited in 1958. Established in the aftermath of the Korean War to provide a nation in the process of rebuilding with domestically-produced consumer electronics and home appliances. In 1959, Goldstar produced the first domestically-produced radio, the first desktop fan in 1960, the first automatic telephone in 1965, the first domestically-produced refrigerator, and the first washer in 1969.

Thanks to rapid growth through globalization, GoldStar established its first oversees production facility for electronics in the United States in 1982, having continued their history of innovation, creating both small electronics such as tape recorders and TV's, and major appliances such as washers and refrigerators. In 1983, Lucky Corporation changed its name to Lucky-GoldStar Group, and in 1995, the company officially became LG.

Today, LG Electronics manufacturers appliances for both the kitchen and laundry, as well as their premium "Signature" series of appliances. An industry leader in technology, LG currently manufacturers a full line of wifi enabled major appliances, having received numerous awards for both reliability and customer satisfaction.
